ABOUT TOBI LEE SIGONA

I grew up in New Jersey and currently live in New York. I graduated from Rutgers University and went on to have two of my plays produced off-off Broadway in NYC. My one act play, Imagine Laughter, got an extended run at the Manhattan Repertory Theater, and my full length play, Young and Precious, was a top 6 finalist in the Thespis Theater Festival. Recently, my fantasy short story, The Tale of Colin Copper, became an honorable mention in the Writer's Digest Awards for Genre Short Stories. It was after college that I realized my passion for film and began working on my transition. I wish I could show you how silly and awful and unprofessional (but highly ambitious!) my first couple of films were, but I look back at them and smile because if it weren't for the setbacks, I wouldn't have learned all of the important lessons that I never would have learned in a classroom.

I started my own independent production company in 2012 with my best friend Keith St. Lawrence, Tobi-Keith Productions (in no affiliation with the country singer). With our passion for creating characters, bringing them to life, and sharing them, we are constantly driven to challenge ourselves with each film we produce. Our first film, The Wanted Ad, is a black and white silent short, based off of Charlie Chaplin's slapstick comedy gags, where two young characters from the 1920s try to find love in the early 21st century. It was an official selection in the Big Apple, Garden State, New Jersey International, and North Jersey Tri-County Film Festivals.

Casting Couch, shot in black and white and inspired by Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, is a comedy short about an aspiring young actress and a wishful writer who make a connection despite numerous obstacles. So far, it has been an official selection in the New Jersey Film Festival and NewFilmmakers of New York festival. Our first post-apocalyptic drama, Dear Stranger, is currently awaiting its festival debut!

Wanting to stem away from shorts and challenge myself on a larger piece, 12:34 was born. The idea came from constantly seeing the number on the clock, wanting to explore time and its phenomenons, and wanting to challenge myself with something that was in my realm of fantasy and sci-fi that I so much love to write, while also intertwining the struggles and reality of everyday life. I wanted to create characters that were complex and fun and diverse for actors who are looking for something a little more out of the ordinary.

Always work with people who enjoy the collaborative process, who challenge you and inspire you everyday. Always work with people who will want to push themselves to do better and who will call you out when you're not pushing yourself. I want to prove that, as Sophie says, "You could do anything you set your mind to."
